Street Care

Street Safety: Children and Street Outreach

📺 Watch the Video

Through experience, we have learned there are ways you can involve children in the critical work of Street Care while keeping them safe at the same time. Until you’ve become experienced with helping us, it is not recommended that you bring your under-14 child along, however, they can help in other ways. They can shop with you for items, prepare care bags,  start a drive for donation items, or even just make cards of artwork for those in need. This is a safe way you can involve kids and at the same time, instill in them a sense of empathy as they learn about the world around them.

Once you’re ready, you can slowly, gently, involve them when you go out. They can stand with one buddy while the other buddy approaches each person. After a few outings like that, if it seems right, they can gently accompany you as you approach six feet from a person in need, but always err on the side of caution and check in with them often to be sure they feel okay.

– Street Care
