Approach Carefully and Alertly: Street Safety

๐Ÿ“บ Watch the Video

As a rule of thumb, always watch a person’s hands when you approach them. Don’t stare, but awareness is important. Your outreach buddy can be helpful here. It is extremely unlikely anyone will be dangerous, but be vigilant and careful. A homeless person is vulnerable even in the best situation, so someone suffering physically or mentally is even more so. If somehow you see signs of aggression, back away slowly and change location. Again, based on our decades of experience, it is extremely unlikely anyone will be dangerous, allowing you to proceed with your interaction while remaining aware.

  • – Always watch someoneโ€™s hand when approaching.
  • – If you see signs of aggression, slowly leave the location.
  • – Itโ€™s very unlikely that people will be dangerous, but stay aware
