Homelessness and Hunger: Poor Nutrition

📺 Watch the Video

Poor nutrition and constant hunger can contribute to several chronic conditions over time. Fatigue and weakness are visible in the short term. You may notice an individual is unable to stand or speak with you, or he or she may appear tired or unable to complete a train of thought. If you suspect a homeless individual is displaying these issues, we recommend the following: Talk to the individual to determine their condition. Are they hungry, feeling weak, or listless?

Share care bags with food and water to alleviate hunger and thirst. Direct them to community resources or food banks. Visit the same area to follow up to ensure they have adequate food to stave off hunger.

  • – Assess the individual’s condition.
  • – Share care bags to alleviate hunger.
  • – Direct to resources or food banks.
  • – Revisit the area to ensure adequate food.
